Research Paper-last grade

The students will spend the remainder of the school year working on the following project:

Choose a career in which you are interested. It must be a career you can research. After you give me the career, you may not change it.
Requirements
The body of the paper must be 3-4 pages. There also needs to be a title page and a Works Cited page. The total length of the paper will be 5-6 pages.
A minimum of 3 sources is to be used. These include newspaper articles, magazine articles, web sites, books, etc.
From the sources you find, you will take notes.
You will then make an outline of your paper.
Once the outline is complete, you will begin putting your paper together in the form of a rough draft.
The final paper must be typed, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins in Times New Roman, 12 point font.
All in-text citations and the Works Cited page are required to be in MLA format.
Failure to include a Works Cited page and/or in text citations will result in your paper receiving a zero.

Choosing a Topic for this Paper
Let’s start with what we know—you have to write on a career you may like to have when you get out of school. Great! But how do you narrow that topic down? If you do not already have a pretty good idea of what it is you would like to do after high school, try the following. You could begin by asking yourself some questions:What am I interested in doing after high school? What careers are there in that field? Will I be able to find enough information on this career to write a decent paper?

Begin by visiting the High Point Regional Website and do the following:
Click on ‘High School’
Click on ‘Guidance’
Click on ‘Career Planning’ – Read
Click on ‘Planning a Career: A Guided Tour’ – Read
Click on top brown tab labeled ‘Middle/HS Students’ – Read
Click on ‘Plan your Career’ – Read
Click on ‘Assess your skill and interests’ – Read
Click on ‘Research different Careers’ – Read
Click on ‘Match my career interests’ – Read and select 1-3 areas that interest you
Click on ‘Search’
Click on any of the careers that interest you.
Make a list of five to ten careers you might like to pursue. Look over the list and circle the two or three that most interest you. Check to see which one you can find enough information on and stay interested in. Bring this list to the library tomorrow!Remember that this is a research paper for a tenth grade English class. This is not a binding contract that you will have to pattern your life after. Choose a career that interests you, whether or not you are certain that is what you want to do with your life.Check with me once you have decided on your topic. Once you have chosen it, you are going to have to write about that career. No changing later because you decide the one you chose was too hard.
